A Report On A Business Meeting Interpreting Practice With PT.Priamanaya Energi

This is a report on an English-Chinese consecutive interpreting task conducted by the author for one business negotiation meeting during her intern engagement with the Indonesia Keban Agung Coal Fire Power Plant Project. The attendees of the meeting are PT. Priamanaya Energi, the project owner; and Shanxi No.4 Electrical Construction Company, the electrical construction contractor. Taking the meeting record as the material for analysis, the author discussed the problems that she met during the meeting, and explains the interpreting strategies that she applied.In this report, the author introduces the background of the interpreting task and the pre-interpreting preparations made by the author, which include early-phase preparation, metaphase preparation and late-phase preparation. In case study, the author picks up some typical problems for analysis, and offers the interpreting strategies that the author applied during the meeting, which includes simplification, paraphrasing, supplement, etc.Finally, the author concludes that the pre-interpreting preparation, not only vocabulary preparation, but also back ground preparation, plays a vital role in the interpreting task. And flexible interpreting strategies should be adopted in an interpreting task, especially at the business negotiation meeting.
