Since causality plays a significant role in the form and content of the text, it is worthwhile to start a serious research on the comprehension and translation of it. The thesis discusses the translation of English cause-effect sentences based on the translating of the introduction of Language and Symbolic Power, written by British sociologist John B. Thompson.Following the comparison between Chinese and English cause-effect sentences and the cognitive principles —"the principle of temporal sequence" and "the principle of contingency", the thesis explores the translation of causality in prepositions, verbs, conjunctions, compound sentences and passive sentences. The author intends to solve some problems on the cause-effect sequences, and the different reflections of the cause-effect sentences in English and Chinese, such as hypotaxis and parataxis, statics and dynamics, and explicitness and implicitness, for realizing the equivalence in causality between English and Chinese.
