Exercises are very important to textbooks while a best textbook should be a good exercises book.Due to this reason, the author would do quantitative analysis of the exercises of the major basic speaking Chinese textbooks in the land of China and Taiwan. The editing and settings of the exercises would be analyzed according to the statistics while rational and pertinent suggestions would be raised as well.The analysis is focused on the editing of exercises of these textbooks and it could be separated into three parts, which would be analyzed according to the theory of taxonomy of cognitive objectives, the function of teaching theory and the theory of cognitive psychology.The first analysis part of the paper is the effect of the theory of taxonomy of cognitive objectives on exercises in the land of China and Taiwan, the analysis would go through the exercises of selected textbooks from the aspects of knowledge objectives and cognition objectives and do cooperation work. The author found that there are no metacognition exercises in all the selected textbooks. The taxonomy of cognitive objectives of the exercises are different in the selected textbooks published in the land of China and Taiwan.The second analysis part of the paper is the effect of the function of teaching theory of the exercises. The author would define the "communicative exercises" and decide the research views according to the theory of communication proposed by Tang Chen. The communication surroundings, communication characters and communication details occurred in the exercises of relevant books from the land of China and Taiwan would be analyzed and compared. The author found that the communicative environments set in the selected Taiwan textbooks are closer to students’life and have more regional characteristic than the selected textbooks published in the land of China. The communicative characters in the selected textbooks published in the land of China are closer to real life than the selected Taiwan textbooks. The communicative items of the selected Taiwan textbooks are less than the selected textbook published in the land of China.The third analysis part of the paper is the analysis of exercises types and amounts of the relevant textbooks. These exercises published in the textbooks from the land of China and Taiwan would be analyzed and compared in four aspects:total amount, intensity, density and types. The author found that the amounts of the exercises of all the selected textbooks are of great amount while the sentences exercises enjoy the greatest amount and the short passage exercises got the least amount. The amount of the exercises types in the selected books published in the land of China is more than the ones of the selected Taiwan textbooks.The summary would go through the whole paper and raise a few rational and practical suggestions according to what is analyzed and compared before. The innovation and contribution as well the deficiency and prospect would also be shown in the summary part.
