| There are many elites come forth from the Hu surname clan in LongChuan village in HuiZhou, HuFu and HuZongXian who took up the post of minister successively in 60 years time in Ming Dynasty. People call them"Chancellors in succession".The ancestral hall of the Hu surname clan is treated as"Great storehouse of The HuiZhou woodcarving art".This paper starts with the background of the ancestral hall, aims at to study the artistic expression and artistic traits of the woodcarving by research on their age, and finds out the artistic value and the cultural connotation of the woodcarving in the ancestral hall.Using lots of professional method ,such as archaeological typology and folklore, this paper takes researches on the woodcarving decoration of the ancestral hall of the Hu surname clan, mainly on three woodcarving pictures of spiers, which is《Water Lotus》,《Deer》and《Flowers and Vases》.Tries to get the spirit of the expressive method of woodcarving--- harmony but not sameness, matching others without being single, and dig up the meaningful artistic style and the golden mean of the Confucian school.The ancestral hall is the memorial temple of the finance minister and the military minister, its woodcarving is to inculcate the whole clan the virtue of peace and harmony. This thought of the Confucian school is very meaningful in culture during that period. To the whole clan, it means gentle and friendly, but more, to the country, it expresses a good wish of unification, peace and harmony. |
