Seeking the good and avoiding the evil were the wish of people in Dunhuang. Stoves were related to the daily lives and the benefic and malefic generated became their beliefs. The beliefs of Dunhuang people were investigated in space, time and psychological aspects.Space belief describes the position of stoves。Stoves sit toward the west and placed in the ecliptic tablet of "WuXing", recorded in "Zhai Jing" and "ZhuZaLueDeYaoChaoZiYiBen". The window of stove were not relative to the well。The positions of stove were non-liveable and no bed.People in Dunhuang had four ways to seek the good by building the stove. Construction time was determined by the sixty years "JiaZi", recorded in "Zhai Jing" and "Sixty Years JiaZi Li" and also recorded in "Ju Zhu LiRi". It was unfit to construct stoves on "FuLong-walking"day, "FuLong" stayed in stove four months or fourty days. They neither built the stove on the third day of"BaiJiRi", appeared in the end of tenth century. Stove couldn’t be built on the second day of Chi-Yao",occurred in tenth century. People in Dunhuang selected different ways to build the stove at different times.The psychological belief describes the belief in Stove-Immortal of people in Dunhuang. The cognition of Stove-Immortal transcended the investigation of merits. and was shown in haunt-pathogenicity, recorded in "FaBingShu", "WuZhaoBuFa" and the other literature. People sacrificed Stove-Immortal at "LaRi"and the other time。People in Dunhuang need select an appropriate day to sacrifice the Stove-Immortal.In conclusion, people in Dunhuang seeked the good and avoided the evil according to the above-mentioned aspects.
