Sociology is a subject closely related to the real social life. The interest in sociology impels the translator to choose Chapter One of the book Sociology: An Introduction as the translation material. It defines sociology and its related concepts, and introduces the functions and tasks of sociology. Its main content is that the sociologists illuminate public concerns from the sociological perspective and provide framework for understanding the rapid reforms of public phenomena and individual’s life in the society, influencing public understanding of the social life directly or indirectly. The translator mainly adopts the translation strategies of domestication and foreignization, and uses proper translation skills according to the specific situation. This translation report includes four parts: the first part is about the description of translation material, including the source of the translation material, its brief introduction and author; the second part is about the translation process, including the preparation, modification and finalizing parts; the third part is about the analysis of translation cases, resolving the difficulties in using vocabulary, syntax, culture and discourse and showing the translator’s thinking and strategies in translation; finally, the translator summarizes the experience in translation.
