A Report On Walking Amsterdam(Introduction And Chapter 1)

This thesis is a translation practical report,and the translation material is selected from Walking Amsterdam(Introduction and Chapter 1).This paper studies the characteristics of lexical,syntactic,textual and cultural levels on English travel texts The selected translation material depicts the history,economy,urban construction,character,architecture,and art of Amsterdam in a unique perspective.The translation practical report is divided into four parts: The first part is the translation practical task description,including the material source,the reason for the selection,the author and the book introduction;The second part is the translation process description,including the preparation before translation,key and difficult points that needs to be solved in the translation process.The third part,the core part of this report,is the cases analysis,and it analyses typical examples in the lexical,syntactic,textual and cultural level according to the characteristics of the translation text.At the lexical level,conversion method in translation is mainly concerned.At the syntactic level,the construe,reverse and other translation methods used in the long sentences are analyzed from the perspective of parenthesis,attributive clauses,adverbial clauses and complicated sentences.At the textual and cultural level,cohesion,coherence and special cultural words are studied;the fourth part is the summary of translation practice summing up the feelings and experiences of the author in this translation practice.Through this translation practice,the author not only enjoyed the cultural charm of Amsterdam,but also summed up and understood the characteristics of the travel text and translation strategies.It is an important experience for the author to apply translation theory to the practice,providing reference for the future translation of this kind of text.
