The translation material is Activity Based Intelligence----Understanding the Unknown written by Letitia A. Long. It is an excerpt from The Intelligencer, Journal of U.S. Intelligence Studies. This part introduces ABI definition, purpose, background, its influence on the changing world and four pillars of ABI as well as visualization system and challenges to fulfilling the promises of ABI.The whole report consists of four parts: Translation task description, translation process, case analysis, reflections on the translation. Firstly, the author makes efforts to find out the chinese equivalence of foreign names and technical terms in the material before the translation material. Then, according to the characteristics of the material, the author chooses the combination of literal translation and free translation. In the case analysis, the author lists examples of three kinds of translation difficulties from lexical level, sentence level and discourse level in combination with related translation skills so that readers have good understanding of thinking process of the author.Finally, the report concludes with experience gained from this translation practice and the remarks on the qualities of a good translator.
