A Report On The Translation Of A Witness Of This Era-bai Yansong By Zou Yu

This is a translation project report on A Witness of This Era-Bai Yansong, a biography written by Zou Yu. It records the growth of host Bai Yansong in CCTV for about twenty years, together with the development of China’s TV news industry and social changes. This translation project report just analyzes the translation of its Chapter Two-“1993-1996 Curiosity: Golden Chance in Life”, which deals mainly with how Bai Yansong transferred his work from a radio station to a TV station, and how the program of the “The East” influenced him, his thinking and understanding in the capacity of a journalist and host. This report first shows the background information of the translation project, its value and the content and linguistic features of the original text, elaborates the relation between semantic translation and the translation of biography, then analyzes how to solve the translation difficulties concerned, for instance, adopting liberal or literal translation for book titles, Chinese four-character structures and sentences with indistinct logic, applying omission, rearrangement and conversion of the part of speech and other translation techniques to make the translated version more idiomatic, accurate and smooth. At last, the report points out the enlightenments its author gets from this translation project and expresses her hope that it may serve as some reference for the future translation of a biography.
