This is a project report on the translation of Beautiful Illusions written by American writer Annie Jocoby. The excerpts of this report are from chapter one to chapter four. This report is altogether composed of four parts. The first is a brief introduction to this translation project, which is mainly about the author, main contents of the source text, significance and components of the translation project. The second part is the analysis of the original text and the translation strategies used in the project. Text analysis, stylistic characteristics and linguistic style are the main points to be analyzed. Meanwhile, it also discusses the translation difficulties and strategies. The third part is about translation methods and specific examples. The part is going to expound some concrete methods by the means of examples chose from the original text. The forth part is to sum up the experience and problems still to be solved. On the base of Newmark's translation theories, combining with the experience of translation, this report aims at exploring the guiding role of semantic translation and communicative translation in expressive text to dig out the most appropriate approach.
