This project report chooses Chapter 12 of the book Data Science For Business-What You Need to Know About Data Mining and Data-analytic Thinking co-written by American data scientists Foster Provost and Tom Fawcett as the source text. The book elaborates on the fundamental concepts and applications of data science, especially data mining with case studies.This translation report consists of four parts. Chapter One is an introduction to the translation project, including its background and significance. Chapter Two is an analysis of the source text, including authors’ information,the main content of the source text and its stylistic features. Chapter Three covers the translation theory adopted to guide the translation practice, the translation difficulties and solutions used to tackle those problems. Translation difficulties include long and complex sentences, terminologies, common words with technical senses and colloquial expressions. Chapter Four is a summary of the enlightenment gained and problems remained in translation.
