Nowadays,China’s academic exchanges are increasingly internationalized.Translation,as a means of transmitting information,plays an important part in the process.The author was entrusted by a translation company to translate the economic text On the Long Wave.Based on this practice,the author,through reviewing the translation process and studying the problems encountered,completes this translation report.This report consists of four chapters.The first chapter introduces the translation project.This chapter involves the description of the project background,text content,text features as well as translation purpose and significance.The second chapter describes the whole translation process.The author describes the emphases in pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation processes.The third chapter is case analysis.This chapter is also the focus of this report.The author firstly introduces the guidance theory in the translation practice: Skopos theory.As an economic text,On the Long Wave contains numerous technical terms,proper nouns and long and difficult sentences.The translation of them is a challenge for the author.In response to it,the author selected typical examples with technical terms,proper nouns or long and difficult sentences.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,the author attempted to explore appropriate translation methods for technical terms and proper nouns.In consideration of the expression habits of target readers,sequential method,restructuring method and amplification were adopted for the translation of long and difficult sentences.In the light of previous studies and this translation practice,the author finds that the following steps are applicable to the translation of long and difficult sentences:(1)Understanding of sentence meaning(2)Logic analysis(3)Expression.Finally,the author summarizes this translation practice from the aspects of gains and limitations.In addition,recommendations for economic text translation are concluded for the purpose of providing a reference for translators who translate such texts in the future. |
