With the development of globalization, the communication among different countries with various cultural backgrounds has been more and more frequent. There are different ways to publicize the culture of different countries. In 2012, a documentary named A Bite of China caused people’s attention not only in China, but also outside this country for the reason that food is the main content of this program and the topic of the program is an eternal attraction to everyone in the world. So the purpose of translating the caption of A Bite of China is to give publicity to Chinese culture. The translation can promote the communication of Chinese and western cultures on some level. Since there is no official translation of the caption, it is a good chance for the translator to have a practice. As an MTI candidate, the author translated the caption, and during the process, the author practiced the theories which were learnt in study, and got some experiences in the translationIn the process of caption translation, the author focused on cultural transmission. Based on the translation, the report is divided into five parts. The first chapter is task description which includes the background information about the documentary, the purpose of the translation and characters of caption. Process description is concerned in the second part. The author listed the preparation before translating, the process of the translation and the effect assessment. The theory which guided the translation was discussed in detail in the third part. Case analysis is the main theme of the fourth chapter because the author talked about some effective translating methods in dealing with different problems appeared in the caption. In conclusion, the author obtained some experiences from the translation. The vocabulary, grammar and passage coherence are also the stress of the translation. The author hope to find a correct and efficient way to accomplish this mission and to have a perfect result in translating cross-cultural caption of documentary with the guidance of Relevance Theory.
