Idioms are part of the chinese vocabulary. The words can express simply and richly the deep meanings of the communication that exists in the daily life of Chinese and Indonesians. However due to the differences in the living habits, values, history, culture, etc of the two civilisations, many factors have led to differences in the uses of idiomatic languages and differences in various expressions. Actually, in teaching chinese as a foreign language Chinese idioms should be a core idea to be passed on to Indonesian learners. The author in the survey found that the current pattern of teaching Chinese idioms teaching in Indonesia is being done with levity and as such the chinese being taught cannot be said to be authentic and systematic. The quality is also questionable. Surveys have proven that they have a large number of errors in the use of Chinese idioms especially in their written form, syntax, semantics and pragmatics. This has lead to a variety of error factors such as negative transfer of the mother tongue in the course of transfering the knowledge of Chinese culture, Chinese traditional culture and a subsequent adverse impact on teaching and the locale at large.Several reasons and laws of learner errors and biases of Indonesian learners were proferred along with recommendations for a selected range of teaching methods. Hopefully, this targeted Chinese idioms methodology will make teaching more interesting, more efficient and able to transform Indonesian learners to become proficient in Chinese language. This thesis is divided into five chapters:The first chapter: Introduction. Summary of topics, significance, research objects and methods, as well as related researches at home and abroad. The second chapter, questionnaire design and analysis of the survey results. The analysed focuses on the Indonesian who will make use of the Chinese idioms teacher/ learner questionnaire design. The third chapter, the Indonesian learner adopts the error analysis. Error analysis will focus on the Indonesian learner’s perceived problems in using the phrases in writing, semantics, pragmatics. Syntax errors generated will be duly analyses. The fourth chapter, Chinese idioms teaching suggestions and strategies for Indonesia leaners. Through the observation of all aspects of the usual bilingual features and examples of student errors, which will assist teachers in teaching effectively and students in absorbing the knowledge transferred.Chapter V Conclusion. This is the conclusion. If teachers and learners in the teaching process in Indonesia can be deft to grasp idioms and the teaching methods and theory put forward, I believe the Indonesian learners will not only learn more about the rich cultures of the two countries. This will transcend into a more vivid and colourful life that comes with the spicing of language with Chinese idioms. |
