| As a Thai student studying Chinese in China, I found that Euphemism prevalent in Chinese and Thai. However, the appliances and the effect of expression of the two languages are different. It is absurd without proper usage. Therefore, comparative analysis, from a pragmatic perspective, of Chinese and Thai physiological phenomenon euphemisms is applied in this study.Previous studies of Chinese and Thai euphemism mainly focus on the pragmatic function from macro level. The results are more general. In this study, starting from the microscopic point of view, attempt was made to divide Chinese and Thai euphemisms into high, medium and low categories according to tactful rating. The five criteria for the classification are merriness of listeners, politeness tendencies, applications, the status of both sides and pragmatic effect. Within each level, euphemisms again are sorted in descending order in accordance with the tactful degree. With careful definition and sorting, we hope to contrast the differences in terms of the tactful rating between Chinese and Thai euphemism, and see if there is the phenomenon of shortage, and further explore the underlying causes leading to differences.For this study, Chinese and Thai physiological phenomenon euphemisms are compared. However, physiological phenomenon euphemisms varied. Death classes, excretion class and gender class euphemism were selected. There is semantic absence of death class, but tactful rating is consistent. There is no specialized euphemism for death of children and women. And there is no semantic absence of excretion class and gender studies class. There is an imbalance on tactful rating. Especially for sex euphemisms, the lack of high-level expression of euphemism Chinese was seen. This is because the Chinese social acceptance of gender phenomenon is still very low.The main cause of Chinese and Thai Euphemism difference lies with five factors:political system, religious culture, geographical environment, gender and pragmatic principles. A physiological phenomenon euphemism of two languages varies in application, aspects of talking to and pragmatic effects. When using it should be noted, in order to avoid culture collision. When teaching, the importance of euphemism should be reinforced, and the perspective of comparison should be focused for students to be understood. |
