| This thesis is a report on the simulated interpretation of the lecture on News Reporting given by a former British journalist to students in Guangxi University for Nationalities. The whole interpretation from English to Chinese has been recorded. Some merits and demerits of the performance gradually emerged from reviewing the recording of the interpretation. The general interpretation was basically correct and the expression was fluent. The merits can be attributed to the application of the Interpretative Approach, with which this reports analyzes—from three levels, that is,the levels of words, sentences and sections—some cases chosen from the recording of the interpretation, and draws the conclusion that this theory could positively guide the interpreting process. The demerits include lack of professionalism, fast tempo, loss of information and some errors. What is important for an interpreter is analyzing the faults and drawing lessons from them, which the author did as well, thus locating the reasons behind them so as to summarize some experience that any interpreter needs to pay attention to. |
