This paper aims to examine the 12 optative verbs( "ke-yi", "hui", "neng", "ying-gai ", " gai ", " xiang ", " yao ", " yuana-yi ", " ke-neng ", " dei ", "gan", "ken") of the New Practical Chinese Reader.It focus on the analyzing of the semantics and pragmatics of these verbs,and it finally find out that Chinese optative verbs’ semantics is complex and there have cross point among them,and the affirmative and negative form are not in one-to one correspondence.Consequently,the emphases and difficulty of teaching should be the similar optative verbs " ke-yi/hui/neng ", "ying-gai/gai", "xiang/yao/yuan-yi" and the negative form of "ke-yi/yao/dei".The author discussed the teaching method of optative verbs from the aspect of teaching stratege and specific mechanism of teaching method by binding the semantics,pragmatics,emphases and difficulty of optative verbs,and argue that :in aspect of teaching strategy,the meanings of the optative verbs should be refined,the importance to the comparison of similar optative verbs should be paid great attention,context teaching and practice should be strengthended,the teachers’ leading role should be explored,and students’ ability of autonomous learning and oral Chinese should be encouraged and developed.In addition to that,regarding to the concrete design of teaching method,the " ke-yi/hui/neng ", " ying-gai/gai ", "xiang/yao/yuan-yi", "ke-neng", "dei", "gan", "ken" should be discussed respectively from the aspect of the teaching goal, key point, method,expected effect and the specific mechanism.
