| This report is based on my English-Chinese translation project, which is a country publicitymaterial titled Bushehr, introducing the history and customs of Bushehr Province, Iran. Countrypublicity materials not only introduce the custom and famous scenic spots of a region, butdisseminate the culture of a nation as well. Therefore, this kind of text must be translated on thebase of keeping foreign cultures and express the target language fluently, and make it easy forreaders to understand. This report records all the translation procedures, and points out theimportance of preparation before translating and examination after it. Problems duringtranslation are analyzed in this paper, and solutions are discussed: Translator should chooseproper translation strategies based on the circumstances while translating （such as lexical gap）;Translationese is common during translation, which is mainly due to a superficial understandingof the literal meaning of English text. However, translating it into Chinese after understandingthe deep meaning correctly could be advocated; Web resource plays an important role in thistranslation project, therefore, translators should learn to utilize web resources. At the end of thisreport lists some enlightenment I get from the project: To guarantee the quality of translation, atranslator must have high bilingual quality and substantial knowledge. Besides, dealing withproblems flexibly, being punctual and responsible as well as good communication ability in aproject are also necessary quality of a translator. |
