Abstract/Summary:
The Moral Uplifting Society(Dejiao),which was founded in the Chaozhou-Shantou region in1939, began to spread overseas in the end of1940s.Most of itsbranches were located in Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia. Nowadays,the amount of this society in Malaysia is the largest. The Chee Yang Kor (Ji Yang Ge),which was founded in Alor Setar, was one of the Moral Uplifting Society in Malaysia.During the past fifty years, the Ji Yang Ge keep rising very well. It had finished anywork in its self-building and became a successful branch of the Moral UpliftingSociety. The Ji Yang Ge used to propagate those basic theory of the Moral UpliftingSociety and worship so many gods. Most importantly, the member of this branch playthe planchette ritual (fuji) so successful and make this branch to be a real religiousorganizations. In addition, thanks to the direction of some purpose of this society, theJi Yang Ge always devote itself to many charitable business as well as variouscultural and recreational activities. Thus, this branch had brought a lot of benefit topeople and gained honors.The successful development of Ji Yang Ge shows that areligious organization can merge with a charity group very well. The Moral UpliftingSociety, for example, the Ji Yang Ge,will be a representative of secular religion in themodern society.
