| Every dynasty will have many adherents of the past dynasty, so was Qing Dynasty, which hasmany adherents of the preceding Ming Dynasty. Qing Dynasty was ruled by Manchu, rather thanHan, which lead to the seclusion of many scholars and literates in the early Qing Dynasty. In orderto stabilize its ruling position, the emperor of Qing Dynasty put forward serials of preferentialpolicies for the Han scholars and literates of the preceeding Ming Dynasty, some of whom had totake up the government official posts in order to make the living and feed the family, for whichmost of them were criticized fiercely then. The Biography of Jin, Yun and Qiao was written tojustify their pursuit to be government officials at that time. This novel portrays the life of WangCuiqiao, who once was the lady from a well-bred family, but was driven into prostitution twice,and after two divorces, she finally met her Mr. Right, Jin Zhong and got married. In this novel theauthor applied idea of “shame body but virgin heartâ€as the new criteria for purity.Choosing biography of Jin, Yun and Qiao as the study object, this paper is discussed in fiveparts, following as:The first part made a brief commentary on the research status of this novel,including different versions, the basic assumption about the unknown author Qinxin Cairen, thewriting course and the subject of the content.The second part analyzed this novel and stated itsinheritance and development of the novels about the gifted scholars and beauties.The third partanalyzed the reasons for its enrichment of the novels about the gifted scholars and beauties, whichincluded the factors of economic development, developing direction of Chinese literature andchanges in people’s aesthetic concepts.The forth part mainly analyzed the image of the protagonist,Wang Cuiqiao, who, although as woman of ability and integrity, still cannot change her lifetragedy which imposed on her by the feudal society.
