As a widespread traditional craftsmanship in Hanzhongpeople’s life, pillow’s embroidery is a precious cultural heritage created by Hanzhongpeople’s diligence and wisdom. Hanzhong pillow’s embroidered graphic has a widerange of topics and diverse modeling with great artistic value. Meanwhile, pillow’sembroidered graphic represents local people’s simple but real lifestyle as well as thesincere traditional custom. The small embroidery graphic even reflect many profoundcultural connotations. Pillow’s embroidery graphic record Hanzhong people’s valuesand unpretentious life attitude and is a priceless folk cultural fortune.While composing this thesis, a great deal of investigations has been carried outwith the usage of folklore and anthropology theory. Large amounts of data of pillow’sembroidery from Hanzhong has been collected while the investigation. The regionalresearch is done based on the pillow’s embroidered products, the gathered informationand related literatures, the research of graphic arts and style is done using Fine Arts inVisual Arts Theory, meanwhile the deep level research on the cultural connotations ofpillow’s embroidered graphic is performed with the combination of the geographicalcultural of Hanzhong, semiotics and folklore. This thesis contains six Chapters.Following this introduction, in Chapter2a classification of pillow’s embroideredgraphic based on different themes is provided and detailed analysis of the each kind ispresented. In Chapter3, an in-depth discussion of the modeling,composition and colorabout the graphic, which has been performed based on the Modelingfeatures,construction and their color characteristics and color matching. Chapter4canbe divided into two parts. In the first part,an exploration of different emotions behindthe appearance of Hanzhong pillow’s embroidered graphic is performed via thetraditional interpretation of the concept of civil auspicious. The second part aimed atthe cultural connotations of Hanzhong pillow’s embroidered graphic fromhappiness,performance and philosophic thinking. Chapter5pointed out theimportance heritage protection of pillow’s embroidered graphic, and some discussion about possible protection approaches, thereby seeking an road of development incontemporary graphic design for the pillow’s embroidered graphic. Chapter6is theconclusion of the whole thesis.With rapid modern social developments, Hanzhong pillow’s embroidered graphicalso encounters many difficulties on transmission and preservation. This valuableintangible cultural heritage is about to disappear from people’s life. Conducting anin-depth analysis of Hanzhong pillow’s embroidered graphic is a respect andprotection for traditional culture and folk art heritage.
