A Report On The Translation Of Civil Specifications From English To Chinese

Chinese constructors in post-WTO China are increasingly active in international bidding projects. Translators experienced in engineering English translation are much more popular than ever before. However, we’ve seen too many cases when translators fail a translation offer for lack of field knowledge, experience and proper skills in engineering English translation.Against this background, the thesis sets out to give a critical explanation and analysis of some most difficult problems occur in translation of specification documents, written in a relatively accessible style. And it is designed in hope of furthering understanding of translation issues and encourage deeper exploration for readers.In the present research, a detailed text analysis is made from perspectives of style, grammar and form,etc. And it makes a survey of many of the most frequently used translation methods. Then a critical analysis is made on problems, reasons and difficulties occur in translation practice. These problem are divided into three classes, which are on semantic level, grammatical level and structural level. And abundant specific cases are applied to show how the problems are tackled to make target language accord with Chines style of writing and be less translationese.
