| Tendering and bidding is one of the main practices adopted in many international large-scale constructions,projects or package of services.Therefore,the importance of translating tendering and bidding documents is increasingly prominent.The translation report is based on a tendering and bidding document "Gui'an Project-Local Design Institute-Bidding Proposal".The problem that the translator needs to solve is a large number of attributive modifiers in sentences,especially the post-attributives.The word order of modern Chinese has gradually moved closer to English;however,English attributive clauses are placed on the right side of the modifier and become right branching direction(RBD),but Chinese adjective clauses are placed on the left side of the modifier.So the position of modifiers has become a major problem in the transition of bilingual sentence.(Liu Miqing,1986:53)Based on the translation task “Gui'an Project” and the postpositive attributives in the sentences as the objective,the report discusses the translation process.The author illustrates translation strategies of postpositive attributives: preposition strategy,postposition strategy,omission strategy and adverbialization strategy.The prepositive strategy is used to deal with postpositive attributive as prepositive,especially applicable to postpositive attributive with simple sentence structure.postpositive is applicable to non-restrictive attributive clauses or long attributives which are hard to be advanced;The omission strategy refers to the integration of postpositional attributive and the antecedent,which is applicable to existence sentence;The adverbialization strategy is applicable to some clauses which are attributive clauses in form,but they have the same function of adverbial.Through the translation practice,the translator gains a better understanding of translation.It is hoped that this translation practice can provide some reference for future translation of similar texts. |
