With the rapid development of exploration and production techniques of oil and gas in China, an increasing number of oil and gas projects were established jointly by China and other countries, where English functions as the main language for the frequent international communication. Therefore, there is an increasing demand for professional translators or interpreters in oil and natural gas industry, and it is obvious that the translator tends to be vocational and translation content be professional and special. However, due to the lack of knowledge of petroleum engineering, translators produce spotty translation and don’t meet the requirement of the company, making a barrier in communication. Thus, demand in the huge market of oil and gas for amount of professional translators exceeds the supply. As translators who are not majoring in petroleum engineering, translation of petroleum engineering text benefits enhancement of technical background and translation skills, making ourselves high level, application-oriented translators. This report is based on Environmental Impact Report of Overall Development of Feixianguan Gas Reservoir Tieshanpo Gas Field (Abridged Edition). Firstly, the author makes an introduction to the background of Feixianguan Gas Reservoir Tieshanpo Gas Field, construction companies, contents and language features of the source text, as well as parallel texts and tools used in the translation process.
