In the southeast of Guangxi province, Pan Dalin has made remarkableachievements. His novels’ main content is about some familiar countryside subjects,which show us a faithful depiction of rural life. The rural theme is very readablewith deep breath of life and local characteristics, as well as deep humanisticcare and cultural implication. He is an indispensable important people in the fieldof “Native literature” in southeastern Guangxi.A writer living in a specific area, his creative works always consciously orunconsciously reflect some emotions of the region of people, the natural sceneryand the local customs and culture. Pan Dalin started his literary production from1979, and he chose the southeast of this particular region as the culturalbackground to build his own literature works. His works are vividly depicted thehonest image of male, the thrifty and gentle image of women, and honest image ofrural cadres in the southeast of Guangxi; at the same time, these works show thesoutheast hills, delicious fruits, other landscapes and scenery and various folkcustoms in the area. Meanwhile, he insistently tells southeast culture and hisworks are filled with deep southeast cultural atmosphere; for instant, deeplytelling the culture of the gate of hell, collecting the southeast dialect, showingthe capacity of singing and dancing of southeast Guangxi nation. In addition, PanDalin is also a thoughtful writer. His novels reflect his thoughts on life andsociety and the speculative philosophy of life. Pan Dalin’s novels pay a closeattention to farmers’ survival fate, reveal the generous attitude and toughvolitional spirit and awaken the value of life to cherish it. His novels alsocommend goodness which has the power to permeate people’s mind and criticize thedeep-rooted bad habits of famers who are heartless for their own profit.
