Empathy originated in Germany psychology, which refers to put the emotion and willinto the object, also under the influence of the object; take the inanimate objects as animate soas to resonance with it. Later empathy gradually applied in areas such as aesthetics,philosophy, and literary criticism. At home, Empathy was introduced in “西方美学史” byZhu Guangqian is based on the aesthetic empathy. Empathy is built on human affection,sympathy, and appreciation of beauty. Whether Empathy at home or aboard, its foothold isconsistent with the emotions. Empathy applied to translation, although two different culture,tradition, and language, the poet and the translator’s aesthetic, emotions, compassion turn intoa bridge to seek common ground while shelving differences.Mu Dan is a modern poet who advocated “colloquial poetry”. In the special period he isnot permitted to continue writing poetry, so he chooses to translate poetry. In the regard ofchose version, he expresses his self-aesthetic which let us discover his feeling and pursuing.On the style of translation, Zha also shows his large view of modern poet background andplain writing skill. Mu Dan’s subjective initiative expressed in poetry translation reflects hisproficient language skills and rich experience in poet, which made us fully understand thattranslation is not only the switch between the two symbols, but the translator’s subjectivepersonality and flexibility “creation”.Based on this, this paper attempts to study from the perspective of a broader view ofEmpathy to parse the translators’ subjectivity of how to play a role in the poetry translation.This has certain innovation and provides a new train of thought for the significance fortranslation study.
