Mural is the need of human productive activity and human life and is the direct reflection of cultural art achievement in the process of constant evolving and developing of human civilization.. It reflects the evolution process of cultural development at different historical stage and is the artistic essence of human thought. It also has rich cultural connotations. Therefore, regardless of its content and its artistic form of expression, the ancient murals that are remaining reserves throughout China reflects the rich and colorful local culture clearly and profoundly.The south of Shanxi Province, as the origin of the Chinese splendid civilization and the place where human multiplied The south of Shanxi Province at the earliest period, is the one of the earliest farming civilization areas. It has a long history and deep accumulation of culture and art. Many historical relics and artistic monuments are also left by ancestors. In the ancient murals preserved so far, Shanxi occupies more than27300square meters, especially in the south of Shanxi Province, mural created in Yuan dynasty and Ming dynasty are at most. They have diverse subjects and large scale. In thousands of years, the culture of Shanxi has made the mural art be splendid with its unique regional characteristics and cultural history. By virtue of their unique subject and their artistic style, the murals of Ji-Yi temple in Xinjiang county are not only the products of Ming dynasty murals, but also the reflection of rich humanities connotation and the regional culture characteristics in this region.First of all, this article will explore the relationship between the murals of Ji-Yi temple and the regional culture through studying the characteristics of the culture of the south of Shanxi Province and the content and artistic style of the murals. Secondly, the individuality and typicality of the murals of Ji Yi temple will be highlighted through the comparison with other representative paintings. In this part, the article will reveal how the Chinese folk culture in every region has influenced Chinese traditional paintings. Finally, it will return to the factors that the murals of Ji-Yi temple manifest the cultural approach in the form of art and appeal to the whole society to study and to inherit this precious folk cultural arts heritage.
