With the accelerating development of globalization, exchanges, which are not only confined to economic exchange but also involve cultural exchange and exchanges in other fields, have increased greatly between China and other countries in the worldwide. As a result, the role of translation becomes prominent since it contributes to the success of those exchanges. As a part of economic exchange and a means of cultural exchange, the publication of Chinese editions of books written in other languages has been frequently seen in recent years. In order to specify related parties’rights and obligations during this publishing activity, a copyright transferring agreement is expected to be signed.Based on the author’s translation practice of E-C translation of copyright transferring agreements in a translation company, this report comprehensively describes the whole process of the translation of the agreements, and tries to demonstrate the relationship between translation theory and translation practice.Firstly, the report presents an introduction of this research, which introduces the background of the research and the significance of writing this report.. Then the translation task is described by specifying its background information, translation purpose and requirements, and the linguistic features of the copyright transferring agreements. After that, process of the translation task is explained to reveal what preparations the author has made before translating and how she controls the quality of the translation. Since the agreements have prominent register features, register theory is adopted to guide the translation of the agreements. And then cases are explicated detailedly and fully on how to achieve field, tenor and mode equivalences of the original agreements in the translated versions. At last, a conclusion is made, demonstrating author’s enlightenment from the translation practice, the limitations of this report and the prospect of future researches.
