Along with the rapid development of Chinese economy, the conference and exhibition industry is now showing us a surprisingly dynamic prosperity. But due to the immature management expertise and unsophisticated experimentalism, the supporting services still lag behind the demand of the market.Proper usage of the Internet, consultation of relevant document in the library and research on the latest trend contribute to the thesis. Also, thanks to the frontline working experience in the4sessions of the International Forum on the Intangible Cultural Heritage, the author collected abundant first hand material and resources. Based on the preparation and organization work of the International Forum on the Intangible Cultural Heritage (an international convention settled permanently in Chengdu), this thesis discusses the feasibility of introducing the project management into modern conventions. With reference to great amount of domestic and foreign documents and resources, it absorbs the experience of existing achievement, trying to construct a systematic and scientific methodology for the convention management. The analysis of project processes, including project initiation, planning, execution and completion are analyzed in this thesis, hoping to provide innovative solutions for other international conventions.Totally there are6chapters in this thesis. The first chapter introduces the purpose, meaning, present background and future trend, along with the research methods, main content and innovation. The second chapter provides the information about the International Forum on the Intangible Cultural Heritage, including its background, purpose, significance and main subjects of its previous sessions. The third chapter focuses on the application of project management in the International Forum on the Intangible Cultural Heritage. The third chapter starts from the patterns and models of large-scale international conventions, discussing how to apply the theory and core techniques of project management into the initiation and execution of the International Forum on the Intangible Cultural Heritage. It associates more importance on the lifespan and organization structure of the Forum, as well as its description, managing scope, resource plan, budget management. The fourth chapter puts emphasis on the controlling of risks. The risk management principle, source of risks and how to carry out effective control over the risks are analyzed in this chapter. Last part is the summary, which discusses the pros and cons of this thesis, and the achievement and prospect.
