Interpreting Report Of "Malaysia MRT Project"

As a student majoring in Interpreting, the author has taken the practice of "Malaysia MRT Project" for more than half a year, which is in line with the requirement of the guidelines of MTI education. In this report, the author introduces the practice, combines her interpreting experience with the interpreting theories, analyzes the relevant theories, puts forward the unsolved problem during the interpreting, and gives the advices to the interpreting learners and looks into the, future of interpreting learning.This thesis gives a report of the interpreting field work the author has done in the past six month. This report revolves around the subject of oversea project engineering interpreting, gives details of the operation of oversea project, uses vivid example to display the features of Engineering English, the professional knowledge and the professionalism of an Engineering interpreter.This report consists of4chapters, which are namely Description of the Practice, Description of the Interpreting Process of the Practice, Case Study of the Interpreting Practice and Conclusion.In Chapter one, the author introduces the "MRT Project" and the operation of "Malaysia MRT Project". The author was working as an interpreter for a Chinese contractor company; help them operate well in this project. The author also introduces the interpreting process of the practice, including the interpreter’s division of labor, the author’s role in the practice.In Chapter two, the author introduces the preparation before interpreting, the characteristic of Malaysian English and the interpreting skills adopted in the practice.In Chapter three, the author analyzes the cases of interpreting with the coping tactics, namely interpreter’s subjectivity, cross-cultural consciousness and interpreter’s non-verbal competence.In Chapter four, the author puts forward the unsolved problems during the practice; they are namely the interpreter’s inadequacy in ad hoc knowledge, the dilemma of the interpreter’s social status, the interpreter’s ethic and the interpreter’s inadequacy in physical strength. In this chapter, the author also gives the interpreting learners some advices for their further studying of interpreting.In recent years, the domestic interpreting has achieved rapid development. Nevertheless, there are still few interpreting practice reports. The author analyses the problems encountered during her practice on the basis of relevant theory for the purpose of contributing to the interpreting practice.
