This report is based on the English-Chinese translation of the first and secondchapters of Translation, Globalization and Localization by Wang Ning and SunYifeng. Chapter One is concerned with translation study reevaluated cross-culturallyin the global context while Chapter Two covers translating basic purposes andprinciples, estimating the future influence of translation in terms of globalization.The report begins with a summary of the task on English-to-Chinese translation.It focuses on the problems encountered in the translation procedure and thecorresponding solutions. The features of language and the writing styles of theoriginal text are discussed, along with three main translation strategies mainly appliedin the translation through cases studies.The report consists of five parts. Chapter One is a description of the translationtask in terms of nature, significance, translation purpose, and text type applied in thetranslation. Chapter Two is an introduction to the translation procedures. ChapterThree is a summary of the lingual difficulties encountered in the translation processand related translation strategies. Chapter Four is a discussion of three maintranslation strategies applied throughout the translation process with examples.Chapter Five is a summary of the reporter’s reflections on the translation practice. |
