This report is based on the translation of an Irish novel All Will Be Well-A Memoir, written by John McGahern. Frank McGahern, John McGahern’s father, is an important and complicated character in this novel. As time goes, Father’s characteristic features change, so do the author’s linguistic features. As a result, this report discusses about translation methods used to show the changes of the author’s linguistic features in terms of the lexical level and the sentential level. The difficulty of the task lies in translating the linguistic features in the description of Father’s characteristic features in different periods. This task is under the guidance of E. A. Nida’s functional equivalence theory. How to translate the memoir in terms of lexical level and the sentential level will be analyzed in this report. This report consists of five chapters. The first chapter is an introduction of the task, the author, the source text and the analysis of the linguistic features in the description of Father’s characters in his middle age and his old age. The second chapter is the preparation before translation. The third chapter is the theoretical basis that guides this task. The fourth chapter is the case analysis. And the last chapter is the conclusion.
