A Project Report On The Translation Of License Contract Of The Transfer Of Technology

This report chooses the translation of License contract of the Transfer of Technology as the subject. This contract is a typical example of the international trade contract, which is signed between China National Foreign Trade Transportation Corporation and a German company. The contract’s specific characters and the cultural differences make the translation of this contract rather demanding and difficult.This contract uses archaic words, synonyms, and special modal verbs on its lexical level; on the syntactical level, passive voice is frequently employed, many sentences are nominalized structures, and complex and long sentences often appear. Besides, this contract involves technology transfer and business trade, so it contains a lot of terminologies. The correct understanding of these terminologies directly determines the quality of the whole translation.Based on the principles of preciseness and all-inclusiveness of information, formality and authority of tone, and normativeness and smoothness of manner, the author handles the difficult points with some translation skills. In terms of the common words with special meanings, the author consults many reference books to get the correct translation; in terms of the nominalized structures, the author makes some adjustments to comply with Chinese grammatical rules; in terms of long and complex sentences, the author uses cutting and reversing to make the translation readable without losing its original style. Though this project still has some shortcomings, the author hopes the report of the translation of this contract can be of use to others.
