A Report On Translation Of Second Language Learning And Teaching (Chapter11)

This is a report on the translation of the11thchapter “The Goals of LanguageTeaching” of Second Language Learning and Teaching（Fourth Edition）written byVivian Cook. This book is an academic book about second language learning andteaching. This translation aims to provide second language learners in China withChinese references about second language learning so as to make them absorb foreignlanguage learning methods. In addition, it helps second language teachers analyzedifferent teaching ways, becoming teachers with theory and practice.This report consists of four parts. In the first part, the object and significanceof this program are introduced, as well as the structure of this report. And the secondpart comes to the brief description of translation process. The preparations beforetranslation includes analysis of the original text and choosing cohesion theory andcoherence theory as the guidance of this translation based on the characteristics of theoriginal text. In the third part, it introduces case analysis guided by cohesion theoryand coherence theory and expounds translation methods and skills in the analysis oftranslation cases. The final part is the summary of the report. It expounds theproblems of the translation and summarizes the experience of the translation.
