Wenzhou luantan, is a local opera popular in Wenzhou. After the establishment of the new regime in1949, the communist party of China Launch a cultural reform movement with the powerful political force in the country. The fate of Wenzhou luantan changed along with the Theater Reform. This article takes the luantan troupes of Wenzhou as a case, trying to draw the outline of the process of institutionalization luantan troupes in Wenzhou step by step. Through the personal life story of Chen Chahua and the process of adaption of Gao Ji and Wu Sanchun, exploring how the communist party of China reformed Wenzhou luantan into a socialist new opera, and how to use it for their propaganda service. Meanwhile, what factors affected the process and the effects of reformation. This kind of transformation and application bring what kind of impacts to artist, opera and the local culture. When the unified policy of opera reformation applied into the specific local contexts, its practice process is very complicated. This paper try to through telling the story of the Theater Reform in Wenzhou, presenting more sides of Theater Reform in Wenzhou.
