Abstract/Summary:
This report aims to study an interpreting activity conducted in the First Shandong-South Australia Cooperation and Development Forum from the perspective of Source Language Effect. The report consists of four chapters:process description, related studies of Source Language Effect, application of Source Language Effect in case study, and service feedback and self-reflection.Chapter One gives a brief introduction to the interpreting task and the interpreting process, covering background information of the Forum, the client and users of the interpreting service, and also the preparation of the task and the business negotiation that the author participated in as an interpreter.Chapter Two delineates the theoretical framework of the report:Source language Effect. Definition and significance of SL Effect in interpreting are involved in this chapter.Chapter Three discusses application of Source Language Effect with reference to the interpreting activity targeted in the Forum in terms of literal translation, choice of words, word order and simple sentences.Chapter Four is about the service feedback and the author’s self-reflection. Service feedback from the client and users coupled with self-reflection from the author are exhibited.In the conclusion part, some rewarding results of the interpreting activity are given. Weaknesses in this report and suggestions for later studies are finally provided.
