| This report is based on a consecutive interpreting practice of an assessment interview for a social policy forum in a research institute in March,2019.This one-on-one interview was between an interviewer and three interviewees. The discourse in this interpreting practice was a kind of impromptu speech and presented the interpreter such challenges as redundant information, incomplete sentences, loose sentences and logic confusion. This report analyses how these difficulties were addressed by observing the principle of Interpretive Theory—sense coming before words,by applying its triangular model—comprehending, deverbalization and re-expressing,and by adopting interpreting methods including addition, omission, supplementation, compression and restructuring so as to meet the basic requirements for interpreting—accuracy, smoothness and timeliness. |
