With the long history of the Chinese traditional painting, it has gradually evolved to be a unique painting artistic style with rich nationality features after thousands of years’development. As early as in Qi and Liang times in Nan Dynasty, Xie He, painter and theorist, put forward the theory of "managing the location" of "theory of six principles of painting"."Managing the location" means the location should be managed, namely, the location of each individual or object (the mental image) should be well considered before painting, which is the most profound insight of Chinese painting in ancient time. As the earliest and most basic aesthetic principle in Chinese painting theory,"theory of six principles of painting" plays a vital role in the Chinese painting history, and highly praised by the later painters."Space Imagery" is an interpretation and portraiture of the "managing the location" in a higher level. In the term,"imagery" is the image framework conjectured by the painter with real life events."Space Imagery";"space imagery" is supposed to reflect the spirit of the painter on a deeper level based on the reflection of the objectivity.First, with the review of the origin and development of the traditional "space imagery", the thesis tries to provide a general idea and discuss its practical value in Chinese traditional painting. Next, the paper begins with Han Xizai Evening Banquet a work of Gu Hongzhong(a famous painter in five Dynasties and Southern Tang dynasty), in which the author of the paper analyzes its historic background, highlight the expression of the specific "space imagery" in the work. And combine the specific painting situation in various periods, the author of the paper illustrates the development of space designing reform, so as to raise the creating concept "space imagery" lying in Chinese traditional painting. Finally, the writer of the thesis analyses the recent development of "space imagery" in Chinese traditional painting in order to manage clear thinking allowing "space imagery" have a better inheritance and development in Chinese traditional painting.
