Report On The Translation Of Symbols Of American Freedom-The Lincoln Memorial

This translation report is based on the translation task of Symbols of American Freedom-The Lincoln Memorial, which includes four parts:the task introduction, the procedure of translating, the case analysis, the summary and reflections on this task. With the guidance of the principle that the translation should be "meaning first with priority given to literal translating", the translator holds the opinion that one should take every possible method flexibly to deal with some translating difficulties during the translation process in order to convey the meaning of the original text faithfully.In the first part, the introduction gives an overall description about this task, including the brief introduction of the original English text on language, grammar and style. The second part is the description of translating procedure including the preparing work that the translator did before the translation and the schedule of the translating.The third part is the case analysis which is the essence of my report, analyzing the English and Chinese version of Symbols of American Freedom-The Lincoln Memorial. Firstly, the translator analyzes the characteristics of the original English text from the aspect of Stylistics, and then, the translator discusses some translation strategy, skills and methods.Finally, the translator makes a summary and reflections on this task according to problems confronts in the process of this translation, and expressed my thoughts through the accomplishment of the task.
