This translation report is based on the translation of Chapter 3 of Language and Culture: Contexts in Translating and appendices 2,3 and 4 written by Eugene A.Nida(1914-2011).The source text systematically explores and analyzes the relations between words and contexts, and further emphasizes the role of context in the translation process, which offers great help for translators to improve the quality of their translation. In the translation process,it is found that the conjunctions are extensively used in the source text. However, their applications vary greatly.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory, the translator takes conjunction translation as the research object and adopts such translation methods as omission, addition, conversion and paraphrasing in the translation. The translation report elaborates on case studies of the application of functional equivalence to conjunction translation. It is hoped that the report could provide new ideas on conjunction translation and offer experiences for other translators.
