An Experiment Study On Omission In Simultaneous Interpreting

Based on pervious studies home and abroad,this paper aims to study omissions in simultaneous interpretation.It is an experimental study.Simultaneous interpretation has characteristics of its own and interpreters need to complete several tasks at the same time,while working,interpreters are under great duress.Omission means professionally trained translators,unconsciously omit or when faced with a huge load, consciously omit the synonymy parts or other parts in order to achieve a better translation version, and give the audience a better understanding of what the speaker says.Omission is often observed in the process of simultaneous interpreting.It has been proved in many studies home and aboard.This thesis has raised a question and intend to solve it based on an experiment study. The experiment has been carefully designed,and the learner of simultaneous interpreter are the main group this thesis studied, based on all those studies, the problems raised have been solved.There are omission among MTI students, It has certain types, there are external cause and internal cause for omission in simultaneous interpreting, omission will influence the quality of simultaneous interpreting and under certain circumstance, omission can be used as a coping strategy of simultaneous interpreting.To further testify the authenticity of this hypothesis and to explore the main types and influence of omissions in SI, the author carried out an experimental study among MTI students from respective grades.Through analyzing the recorded voices of each experimental subject, the author proved the universality of omissions in SI students and summed up the frequently adopted omission types and got to know the influence exerted by omissions on SI performance.What’s more, via analyzing respective rendition of each experimental object, it turned out that proper omissions would contribute to the fidelity of the key information of an original speech so that the most important function of SI as a tool of communication is sure to be met. Therefore, proper omission can be applied in MTI studying and field practicing.In the quality assessment of simultaneous interpreting, omission has always been considered as errors resulting in loss or deletion of SI information. However, an increasing number of scholars have noticed that saying it all is not practical in the field. Based on the experiment,the conclusion has been reached that here are omission among MTI students and it has certain types.
