The Study Of "NP₁的NP₁" Structure

"NP1的NP1" is a widely used structure in daily life that’s made by two “NP”s connected by “的”. Afew articles were found on periodicals that gave brief study on such structures in the academic circle, butrare are systematic and specific researches. This paper is based on excellent study result of predecessors onsimilar structures and related linguistic theories such as “three plane” theory of grammar,“cognitivelinguistics” and “structural grammar” etc. Then words picked from dictionary are put into the structure anddaily expressions with this structure are searched in Chinese Linguistics PKU to be sorted, classified andsummarized. Subsequently a specific study is made on "NP1的NP1" structure from syntactic, semantic andpragmatic perspectives.After elaboration on study object, current study status related to this structure and language materialsources, this paper gives analysis on semantic level to find out NP that is applicable with this structure andthe reason, listing out semantic connotations and extraction method. It discusses if there’s obvious orunderling connotation in dominant clause and the semantic relation between dominant and successiveclauses. It analyzes the polarity highlight and extending recursion due to different forming mechanism ofsemantic meaning of different NP structures, and the constructional meaning. Secondly this papers makessyntactic analysis to find out under what conditions “中” is used, under what conditions it shouldn’t beused and when it’s optional, its function, restricting factors when it shouldn’t be used, different NPapplications and syntactic functions when "中" is used and not used. After that, the paper analyzes thestructure from pragmatic perspective to discuss NP’s function, rhetoric method and expression effect.Finally, this structure is compared with similar ones such as “比N还N”,“很N” to disclose its uniquenesson semantic, syntactic and pragmatic aspects.“NP1的NP1” structure features distinct semantic meaning, special syntactic formation and outstandingexpression effect which make it important expression method in daily life. We can expect more importantrole it will play in future language expressions. The study of it will be imperative.
