With economic globalization, international contacts are becoming more and morefrequent and diplomatic activities are growing at the time. Translation, which is anindispensable part in the diplomatic activities, has been booming in recent years. To protecttheir own interests, and promote the harmonious development of region and the whole world,each country or foreign government departments have special news spokesman, specificallyto the media to clarify its position. The interpreter in government or the diplomatic service forpress conference shoulders much heavier responsibility than ordinary interpreter. This thesisuses the processing model of interpreting to analyze the process of consecutive interpretationof White House press briefing, hoping to put forward some feasible translation strategies toguide foreign affairs translators.The processing model of interpreting describes the process of interpretation. The modelsused in this paper are the two with the greatest influence in our country, one being Gile’sEfforts Model and the other being the XiaDa Model.In the simulation of consecutive interpreting practice, the author is committed tosimulate a real interpretation process. The practice process includes: accepting the interpretingtask, preparation before interpretation, recording audio, translation and alignment the text,summary and analysis after translation, and writing translation report.Besides the source language of English and the target language of Chinese, this thesisconsists of four chapters. Chapter One is a description of the interpreting task, including thesource of task, the introduction of the people involved and the background information.Chapter Two is the process of interpretation, including the preparation before interpretation,recording audio, translation and alignment the text. Chapter Three is the analysis of the consecutive interpretation. The author’s interpretation process includes both before and duringthe interpretation. So in this paper, the author uses the Knowledge Requirements Formula forInterpreters and the processing model of interpreting to analyze the case. Chapter Four is aconclusion, including the writer’s experience in interpreting and the understanding of theconsecutive interpretation.
