Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland both belong to the scope of Chinese civilization, Hong Kong TVB drama began to appear on the mainland television screen in1980s, people were delighted to accept this kind of drama with same cultural roots, set off a wave of crowd-pleasing chase drama. In recent years, Hong Kong drama production is mainly concentrated in the Asia Television Limited (that is "ATV") and Television Broadcasts Limited (that is "TVB"), after several years of development and fierce contest in the ratings and market share, TVB exceeded the ATV in all aspects, won a big independence era,"TVB drama" now has become synonymous with Hong Kong TV series.With the rapid development of urbanization, the social division of labor becomes more obvious, thus the career drama which expressed the conflict between human nature and the occupation standard appeared on television screens around the world. TVB career drama as a successful example of Chinese career drama is widely active on the TV-screen since the1990s. Detective Investigation Files, The file of Justice, Healing hands, Armed Reaction and other classic TV plays had maintained high ratings, favored deeply by the global Chinese. However, compared to the boom of creation, the theoretical study of TVB career drama is unsatisfactory, in Chinese journals and online, the paper that make it as object of study is less, and ones that study by narrative theory is much less. Therefore, it is necessary to apply relevant narrative theory to study the gains and losses of "TVB career drama", thus providing some theories and lessons for its future direction of creation and innovative development of Chinese mainland career drama. This paper makes "TVB career drama" as the study object, referring to television narrative theory, and research from both the content narrative and expression narrative. The introduction of the paper generally introduces the origin and significance of the research, a summary of relevant literature provides theoretical reference for the "TVB career drama". The first chapter systematically clarify the object of study "what is it", through summarizing the generation, development and influence of TVB career drama. The second chapter researches the roles of TVB career drama by content narrative, analyzes the type of role through an innovative way to borrow the theory of role model, and finds that the conflicts of human nature, prescriptive career, and social complexity constitute the story content. The third chapter analyzes narrative utterance of TVB career drama through three aspects that consist of narrative viewpoint, temporal and spatial arrangement, sound and picture modeling emphasize combining film characteristics with narrative expression, focus on the expression of TVB career drama for urban image of Hong Kong. Chapter IV analyzes the reason for the characteristics said in the second and third chapter from the narrative context, thus excavate the underlying causes of development of TVB career drama during the urbanization process in Hong Kong. The fifth chapter will review the existing problems of TVB career drama and analyze its future trends, thus help the development of mainland career drama to build Chinese characteristics career drama.Through the typed perspective and the theory of television narrative, this paper research "TVB career drama" step by step, combining the text analysis of "Detective Investigation Files" series,"Forensic Heroes" series,"Healing hands" series,"Survivor’s Law" series and "Burning Flame" series. Thus hope to provide more value experience to television career drama research.
