With the rapid development of diverse entertainments, thriller novel is exposed tomore readers, the importance of the quality of translation becomes profoundly. By takingthe original text of61Hours, the fourteenth novel of “prodigal detective” Jack ReacherSeries that is written by British mystery writer Lee Child as an example, the author wrotethis translation report.61Hours is a novel of thriller. It mainly describes that a tourist bus crash occurred inSouth Dakota, Jack Reacher as the heroine survived in a snow storm and assisted thelocal police to rescue the people on the bus. Owing to this, Reacher discovered a bigcrime and helped the local enforcement to investigate the case in hunting for a murdererand protected a key witness. At last, Reacher used the power of justice and defeated evil,and won the final victory.The report is the combination of theories and translation practice. The part oftranslation practice is composed of a ten-thousand-word of translation of61Hours fromthe Chapter1to Chapter3. And the author puts the appendix in the end of this paper.What’s more, the thriller61Hours has not found the other translation published in China.The report makes a summary, analyzes the translation practice, gives many specificexamples relating to the original text and discusses some translation theories.This translation report can be divided into five parts: Introduction, Task Description,Process Description, Case Analysis and Conclusion.The first part is introduction, which expounds status in quo of this field of studyoverseas and domestically, solves the key issues in the thesis and indicates theapplications and theoretical meanings in the fields of economic construction, scientificand technological progress and social development.The second part gives a brief introduction the stylistic features of61Hours,including the historical background, the introduction of the writer, plots and features ofthe novel, and illustrates the characteristics of genre of thriller.The third part describes the process of the whole translation, including preparation oftranslation, description of first draft and retranslation, proofreading and revision.The fourth part analyzes the cases. The author gives the analysis of translationstrategies at lexical, syntactic and stylistic level integrating with the translation practice. At lexical level, the report analyzes the extension of meaning and polysemy. At syntacticlevel, it gives a summary of strategies in translating long sentences and reinventingsentence structures. At the stylistic level, some examples are introduced to explain thefigures of speech such as simile, metaphor, parallelism.The fifth part is the conclusion. Through the practice, the author summarizes theattainment as well as encountered problems. It gives the author a deeper understanding ofthe translation strategies and improves translation abilities. The author also hopes thatthis translation text can assist other readers.
