A Report On The Translation Of Proof Of Heaven

This report is written after the writer has finished the translation of the ten chapters ofthe novel—Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon’s Journey into the Afterlife. The chosentranslating parts are the climax of the whole novel. The author tells the story that hewakes up after seven days coma and gets a new worldview and outlook on life. Thereport includes three parts: the writing background, text feature and the choosing reasonare introduced in the first part; The second part is a description of the translation process,including pre-translation preparation, translation process and post-translation matters,and the post-translation matters are many translation issues including recision andevaluation; In the third part, the writer summarizes some translating problemsencountered in translating process and classifies them into different groups. Each kind ofproblem has at last an example which is explained by related theories that have learnedon the class. The writer tries to come up with different measures to correspondingproblems; the last part is a summary of the entire translation tasks, including theinspiration, summary and insights during translation. Through the translation practice, thewriter realizes some translating methods on literary and technology translation. Inaddition, the writer also recognizes that a professional translator must possess therelevant qualities. Solid writing skill and ability of Chinese are the basis for expressingthe meaning.
