| The translator selects articles of the British famous magazine The Economist asthe source text of the English-Chinese translation project. The translator chooses sixEnglish articles and translates them into Chinese. This report analyzes the problemsencountered in the process of translation in detail, discusses and summarizes alldifficulties involved in the translation of news English and all applied translationstrategies deeply.Besides the introduction and the conclusion, the main part of this report consistsof three chapters. The first chapter describes the translation task in detail, includingthe background and the characteristics of the translation task. The second chapterdescribes the whole process of the translation, including the preparation beforetranslation, the allocation of time during the process of translation and theproofreading and checking after translation. The third chapter is the most importantpart of the report and this chapter analyzes and summarizes cases in the process oftranslation generally. In this chapter, combining with cases, the translator summarizesfour translation strategies that are used many times in the translation project, namelyliteral translation, free translation, amplification and inversion. The translator explainsthe definition and application of each translation strategy and the reason of using thistranslation strategy in detail.The source text of this translation project is news English, which is always thecombination of real contents and perfect language expressions. During the translationprocess of the source text, the translator follows differences between English andChinese and chooses relevant translation strategies and methods to make thetranslation more native and in accordance with expressive habits. This report describesthe preparation before translation, the proofreading after translation and the solutionsto the problems during the process of translation, which is the best way to understandthis translation project. |
