In the thesis, the author will analyse the social and cultural reality in the dimensionof ethics which Chinese commercial films reflect.In grasp the relationship between thecontemporary Chinese commercial film and reality, the author will try to illuminate theethical and moral issues during the process of development of the commercialmovies. This thesis combins with the development of Chinese society since the reformand opening up, to present the commercialization process of the contemporary Chinesefilms, and to explore the commercial film culture turn, observe the current socialmorality turn. Under such an approach, we can see the relation between Chinesecommercial films and the current social morality turn.The three stages of Chinese films commercialization process can be shown asfollows: the consciously commercial exploration of early Chinese films, the entertainingclimax in the1980s, commercial films mainstream after1993. In this process, thecontemporary Chinese commercial films present new characteristics: compared with theHollywood films, Chinese commercial films are more “good skills” than “good story”,satisfying the secular dream, shaping the civilian hero; Compared with the Chinesefilms in the past, they shows entertainment value, and the social function.According to these characteristics,most people think that commercial films arejoking, mercenary, and are usually criticized. But in essence, part of the commercialfilms have expressed the appeal of patriotism, humanitarian value, freedom and theexplanation of the diversity moral value is positive. So the second part of the thesis isthe cultural transformation of contemporary Chinese commercial films. With the riseof commercial films,the video-based culture——a typical embodiment of mass culturehas been formed. Film culture tends to be popular and complanate, meanwhile, theaudiences’ aesthetic also appears entertaining and sensory.As a form of mass media, film has the certain social function. It should be theguidance of "edutainment", lead the social aesthetic. And the audience also have valueexpectation to films.Films should cause the audience emotional resonance, express theemotional care and ethical care to people. But in fact, commercial film abandoned itsdue value aim. It shows as follows: deviated from the enlightenment function; the lackof ethical care for people; the imbalance between the freedom of aesthetic and moral constraints. In the face of these phenomena, have to do this, commercial movies canbetter development: appropriate entertainment, pay more attention to the social function;comply with the demand of audience’s moral psychology; strengthen the commercialfilms’ ethical narration....
