Interpreting is a basic means to make trans-language and cross-cultural communication possible. Interpreters play a significant role. Eco-translatology is an interdisciplinary research combining ecology and translation. Ecological study on translation aims to apply the theory of ecological holism and Darwinism to translation. Although studies on Eco-translatology has been carried on during the last decade, it is still in its initial stage of development. Related literature is scarce. Based on relevant theories of eco-translatology, the present thesis seeks to explore pathways to the realization of interpreter-centeredness. The author tries to answer three questions, namely, what’s the connection between ecology and interpreting? why are interpreters in the central position? and how to realize interpreter-centeredness? Through literature review and tentative analyses on interpreting examples, the author arrives at the following conclusions. Firstly, the process from interpreting to ecology is a progressive and interacted process, including interactions with language, culture and people. Secondly, interpreter-centeredness in Eco-translatology is represented by interpreters’dual roles of adaption and selection, that is, adapting to the eco-environment of interpreting and making optimal selection. Thirdly, four possible methods are suggested to help realize interpreter-centeredness, reflected in: interpreters’adaption to eco-environment of interpreting as the prerequisite; full understanding of interpreting motives as the basis; multi-dimensional transformation as the principle; sustainable development of interpreting as the driving force. By better positioning interpreter’s role in interpreting, this research will provide useful analysis for the study of interpreting.
