| Based on Social Identity Theory, the research focused on the function of group identity for Chinese country migrant workers’ children to cope with discrimination. Study1had110participants, exploring the relationship between the perception of discrimination, group identification and acculturation strategy. Study2investigated335participants to discuss the protective effect of the identification of migrant group to deal with discrimination. Study3included101participants, manipulated the welcome situation and discrimination situation to test the moderate function of group identification to self-esteem and collective esteem. The results showed that:(1) The perception of discrimination leads country migrant workers’ children to choose migration as their acculturation strategy. Country group identification positive correlates with assimilation and negatively correlates with separation. City group identification negatively predicts the separation strategy. Migrant group identification has a positively significant correlation with integration.(2) The perception of discrimination has negatively influenced the life satisfaction of country migrant workers’ children. To buffer this advance effect, they intend to increase the identification of migrant group while decrease city group identification.(3) Migrant group identification cannot help to buffer the negative effect of discrimination to collective esteem to migrant workers’ children, but city group identification has been found a moderate effect between these two factors. The participants who has a low identification to the city group will suffer more in collective esteem under discrimination, while who owns a relatively high city group identification do not. |
